How do you get kids outside? You get them to Write Wild! An astounding amount of science is building a case that is revealing how a disconnection with a nature is detrimental to the health and mental well-being of our youth. RLC continues to find creative ways to change this.
Supported by a grant from Edison International and partnering with the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center and Banning Unified School District, the "Write Wild!" program served 18 middle-schoolers from Nicolet High School in Banning. The five-week class included writing and art exercises, naming and caring for an oak seedling at home, and a field trip to Cienega Canyon where youth discovered how much there is to explore and write about. Most importantly, all of the kids ended the class with a new fascination for and connection to the natural world around them. You can join us on May 20th at 6pm to hear readings by the participating students
