There is a side-blotched lizard sunning itself on a rock right now in coastal sage scrub while nearby a hummingbird is sipping nectar from a patch of sage. At the edge of a woodland, a desert cottontail is pausing beneath the shelter of a coast live oak. Her kits, newly emerged from their burrow, are foraging for the first time. These places belong to them and will always belong to them.
For more than 35 years, Rivers & Lands Conservancy has been quietly making sure wild places like these are preserved. Working alongside partners, we’ve helped nearly 15,000 acres become permanently protected and today we steward over 3,000 acres in our care. Hundreds of students, volunteers, and neighbors join us on these lands every year. They join us to get their hands in the soil with their minds open to unexpected wonder, and their hearts committed to restoring and caring for these special places.
