When the Santa Ana winds rush through the Cajon Pass, scouring over its creeks and mountains, the winds lift and carry fine sand that settles to the valley below. For thousands of years the Santa Anas have shaped the contours of the Inland Empire, depositing fine Delhi sands into a stretch of dune formations that once covered fifty square miles of San Bernardino and Riverside. It is a habitat mostly forgotten, but found nowhere else in the world.

By the early 1990s, only a sliver of the habitat remained.

Rivers & Lands Conservancy holds over 200 acres of Delhi Sand Dunes protecting the habitat for the federally endangered Delhi sands flower-loving fly. Thanks to the fly, a wide range of other insects and the plants the ecosystem depends on are preserved.

For a limited time, we’re offering $20 individual memberships (discounted from the normal rate of $50) in honor of the Delhi Sand Dunes.

You get:

  • A membership decal
  • Invitations to Member’s Only events
  • Member discounts to new upcoming RLC activities
  • Quarterly Members Newsletter
  • Monthly e-newsletter

Dues from memberships help us with programming and the growth and success of our education and outreach programming. And remember, your contribution is tax deductible!
