It was the act of the community coming together raise the funds that made the preservation of Mt. Rubidoux peak possible. Thousands of community members made this possible and that makes the peak yours!
Rivers & Lands Conservancy is dedicated to preserving the peak and helping our partners who promote and love the landmark. We want our community to continue to find inspiration, a sense of belonging, and the fulfillment that comes from embracing open space on Mt. Rubidoux.
Here are a few ideas for how to do that!
Finding Music on Mt. Rubidoux
If you had gotten married 100 years ago, you likely would have danced to composer Carrie Jacobs-Bond’s song “I Love You Truly.” Chances are you would also know the popular song that was inspired by a sunset view from the peak of Mt. Rubidoux and composed immediately after at The Mission Inn in 1910. Although it was written for her friends, “A Perfect Day” grew to become one of the most popular songs of the time. We are all waiting for the next popular song inspired by the peak! Maybe it will be written by you.
Capture the Perfect Moment
The winding trail up to the peak is filled with possibilities for framing an amazing photograph. The variety of plants, wildlife, historical features, and of course, people, offer endless possibilities. Whether you are searching through a lens or building up your Instagram, how you see the mountain will likely carry over into how you see your day! Plein Air at the Peak
Whether you a budding visual artist or a professional, there are definitely benefits to crafting your art in open space. Here’s few reasons to paint or draw at the peak:
- Study the shifts of natural light
- Develop of more accurate color definition
- Simplify your technique
- Practice capturing the essence of place
- Get outside and out of your studio!
Just a stroll with a sketch pad or some time drawing while perched on the cement benches might take your art in new directions. And who knows what fellow artists you might meet while your sketching! The beauty of Mt. Rubidoux resonates in a different way for everyone. We would love to see Mt. Rubidoux through your eyes!
